Resumo

This communication will describe the conservation state and study damages in the embryo collection of the Veterinary Museum of the Complutense University. It will also analyse the methods used in its fluid conservation to date (in 10% formaldehyde until 2013 and thereafter in 70% ethanol), focusing on the inconveniences and problems identified so far. On the other hand, existing options will be studied in order to propose new conservation and biodeterioration prevention methods, analysing examples of similar cases published and assessing their applicability to this collection. Aspects such as the need to find a method that is harmless to people, that preserves the morphological and colour characteristics of the stored samples and, of course, that can continue to be used for educational purposes both by students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and by the general public visiting the museum or attending the activities programmed by the Museum, will be taken into account.
