The intensification of irregular migratory flows to the EU from the three main Mediterranean routes, resulting from political, economic and social conflicts in certain countries of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, has been the greatest humanitarian crisis, as well as a challenge in terms of its management. In this logic, irregular immigration becomes a major theme of the geopolitical scenario. However, community policies continue to be biased towards security, border control and the increase of re-nationalizing tendencies in certain States.
