Chinese President Xi Jinping launched the so-called new Silk Road at the end of 2013. With this project, China addresses the most important international initiative ot recent decades, to stimulate development and trade in more than 60 countries, covering more than half of the world's popu/ation and more than 50% of global GOP. China's fo reign policy is increasingly assertive and the Belt and Road lnitiative (BRI) is a strategy of economic and cultural public diplomacy, to legitimize Beijing's influence and transtormation power on a global seale. However. the repression of its authoritarian system hinders the generation of Soft power with non-state actors and leads to the coercion and manipulation through the Sharp power to promote abroad its alternative model ot international leadership.
