Abstract

This chapter pursues, beyond the generalized perception of Africa as a continent that generates conflicts, pandemics, migration and terrorism, a critical study of the opportunities and challenges that African regionalism presents tor the current international arder. To that extent, it is based on the anatysis ot the regional integration processes and the main factors that condition both the effective polítical, legal and economic integration ot the African States and the necessary articulation ot the multiple capabilities and diversities existing among them. All this, taking into account the current context affected by various processes ot democratization, cross-border conflicts and the challenges inherent to globalization, tocusing the ana/ysis on two elements that characterize the new 2063 Agenda of the African Unían: the promotion of the the role of women in the political and economic development ot the region and the strengthening of the continent as a new soft power in the international retations scenario.
