Abstract

The healthcare received by Isabella II of Bourbon (1830-1904), quenn of Spain from 1833 to 1868, was officially regulated by the Royal Household's pharmaceuticals service. Organised hierarchically, both the chief physician and the chief pharmacist to the queen lived in the Royal Palace and accompanied her on trips. All the medicines prescribed and prepared for her in the Royal Pharmacy were inspected and prepared for her in the Royal Pharmacy were inspected, labelled, tagged and copied word for word in her personal book of prescriptions before being administered to her.
