Resumo

Perceptions and conceptions that the young university students have on technical and generic competencies that characterize professional status have been object of interest and investigation by several disciplines. The aim of this paper is double. Firstly, we have carried out a research to find out in what extent engineering students consider important the possession of interpersonal skills, present in several curricula efforts as generic competency for graduates, at the professional level. Secondly, students evaluate their training needs respecting these particular skills in order to discover their self-perceptions and skill level. Results are compared with diverse engineering curricula initiatives in order to establish competency differences between student’s perception and academia recommendations.
