Abstract

This work, developed in Empecinado 4 Street of Alcalá de Henares, is part of a project of integral adaptation which includes both an interior remodelling of the spaces and exterior facades repairing. The site adjoins a demolished building associated with the Magistral Church of Alcalá de Henares, destroyed during Spanish Civil War. Archaeological intervention consisted, among others, developing a serial of archaeological pits in different rooms of the property, in living spaces and outer courtyards. Wall-trenches were developed to document the historical building phases. In this work were located several masonries and tackles corresponding with different historical phases and moments. The inner courtyard, decorated with a columned peristyle is remarkably. Also a cave built under the patio in which samples of historical mortars were taken for their macroscopic characterization, making a masonries study too. Finally brickwork and masonry called “sillarejo” was documented as a traditional art-brick of Castilian architecture from the 14th to the 19th century.
