Abstract

This paper presents a project of contemporary archaeology and cultural heritage in Alcalá de Henares. Drawing on the relationship between cultural heritage and identity, this project creates a narrative based on archaeological, historical and social information on the neighbourhood of Nuestra Señora de Belén. The archaeological site of Complutum is located in this area. In contrast to the existing discourses, we propose a narrative of the neighbourhood that spans until the present day. This narrative also adds a social dimension to help the local and multicultural population with relating with their heritage. Subsequently, the narrative was tested against the experiences of the neighbours themselves. This paper addresses some preliminary results of this investigation that commenced in early 2017
