Resumo

In the La Mezquita burial place (Cadalso de los Vidrios, Madrid), after several archaeological studies, different tombs have been identified with the possibility of containing in their interior different individuals, possibly related by biological bonds, belonging to the same “family”. Thus, in this work a proposal is made as to how genetic studies can contribute to the creation of new bonds of identity between a population and the archaeological heritage of their community. For this, it is intended to determine the existence of biological family ties between the individuals exhumed from the tombs selected in La Mezquita burial place site and the current inhabitants of the community, who still have the same surname as the inscription of their tombstones. The genetic analysis of individuals from each of the tombs identified as “Gallego” or “Matatoro” has been also proposed, as future work, to determine if there is any biological link between them. It is also intended to carry out the same study with possible descendants, verifying whether the surname in question has been transmitted by patrilineal line, or by any social link. Lineage markers, such as mitochondrial ADN and Y chromosome will be studied, linking individuals through maternal and/or paternal routes.
