Abstract

Forty years of Francoist propaganda have left a deep mark on the Spanish mentality about the fate of Spanish artistic heritage during the Civil War. This vision was based on the idea that the “reds” destroyed and plundered without limit the patrimony, taking it massively abroad to appropriate it. This perspective contrasts sharply with the historical research that is being carried out on this area, which demonstrates the work of heritage protection carried out by the republican leaders. Giving the keys of this research becomes an unavoidable task for the teaching of heritage in the different educational levels.
