Abstract

This doctoral thesis researches the problem of fame –and in particular that of the construction of idols and icons in the highly mediated environment of our current culture– using a semiotic methodology, and especially that of the semiotics of culture. We will take as the main object of analysis the figure of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, considered by many as one of the icons of our time, and in any case a fundamental figure in understanding the changes that have taken place in the field of journalism in the last decade.The proliferation of celebrities, idols and icons in today's mass culture poses a series of questions for the social sciences as a whole, and for semiotics in particular, that justify the writing of a work of these characteristics, which will be structured in three parts...
