Abstract
The Casamanza conflict, in southern Senegal, is one of the oldest on the African continent. Despite being considered as an armed conflict of low intensity, its effects on the population and on the economy of the region have been remarkable; and the efforts to achieve peace through dialogue have been so numerous and constant throughout its history, as unsuccessful. Throughout this chapter, we analyze the various elements that explain this conflict, so different from the most common armed conflicts arising from social conflicts in the African continent, as well as what the future expectations of the same might be.
