The Social Thermalism Programme of the National Institute of Social Services for Retirees and Pensioners in Spain (also know as IMSERSO) implies a kind of social welfare tourism which encourages active ageing. The spas attached to the aforementioned programme in Galicia will be analysed in this paper; and the way in which an active leisure for the senior citizen population can be achieved through the therapeutic properties of the water will be proved.
