Abstract

The analysis of 1.552 specimens of Pseudevernia furfuracea frota the Iberian Peninsula shows the presence of four chemical races: I, with physodic and oxyphysodic acids; II, whith pysodic and olivetoric acids; III, with olivetoric acid, and IV, with physodic, oxyphysodic and olivetoric acids, as the main lichen products in the medulla. The distribution of the chemical races of P. furfuracea in the Iberian Peninsula is presented and its possible correlationship with ecological factors is studied. The chemical race III seems to correlate with high rain fall areas.
