Abstract

Since 1980, the term "scientific tourism" has appeared in the literature emphasizing that tourism was a practice mainly by anthropologists and explorers in remote locations. Currently, the term means the approach of the general public with scientific personalities strictly related to science. Usually, this tourism is usually made by a public belonging to a developed country, have high income and highly trained seeks to increase their knowledge and can for example be carried out both in natural areas and educational museums. Scientific tourism has already brought significant results to recipient countries (sites and places with high technological content) and sending countries (with curious and eager to know people from other places parameters scientific tourism). Spain is a country source of tourists both as a recipient of this type of tourism. In addition, there are two possible routes of scientific social tourism, a productive path, characterized by providing experiences and knowledge to tourists and a nature trail, closely linked to natural environments. It is intended in this study to provide a global view of this phenomenon and then describe the situation of scientific tourism in Spain and naming the places of reference in this type of tourism and show both the uniqueness of each of the important places in Spain tourism scientist as its key contribution to the configuration of these places.
