Résumé

The Sahel, the southern bank of the Sahara, has long been subjected to complex dynamics in which the conjunction of insecurity, weak states and little economic and social development, added to the powerful effect of climate change and a very intense population growth create a “perfect storm” situation, in which terrorist groups look for where to grow and expand, and the population suffers in an extraordinary way. The COVID-19 pandemic has and causes a great impact in the already complex Sahel zone, causing a conjunction of health, economic, food, social and security crises, consequently maximizing instability in a way only foreseen in the worst-case scenarios and with a tendency to worsen rapidly. A brief analysis of this complex situation and a final reflection articulate this Document.
