Abstract
In this work, a review of the development of the mammary gland and the hormonal regulation of the sow's milk production is made, following the decrease in milk consumption per piglet caused, among other reasons, by the increase in the average of the litter size. A correct development of the mammary tissue is not only reflected in the milk production of the current lactation, but also influences subsequent lactations. Next, the specific nutritional needs of each stage are studied, pointing out the keys to achieve an ideal performance.
