Abstract

The period 1931-1936 involves the consolidation of a film industry that must adapt to the new working methods of sound films, creating a network of filming and dubbing studies not yet documented or studied from a technical perspective. Through this work, we intend to carry out an analysis of the existing bibliography and of the authors who have made an approach to the origin of the cinematographic studios of the sound film, the information that we can extract from the hemerographic analysis or the technical books published during that time. One of the pioneering studios in the development of sound film in Spain is CEA (Cinematografía Española Americana), where Luis Marquina directed his second film in 1936: El bailarín y el trabajador (The dancer and the worker). The case study presented here serves to propose a method of analysis centered on the study of the "sound text" as another element of the narrative discourse. Luis Marquina –a director with previous training as sound engineer- and León Lucas de la Peña, who is responsible for the sound in this film, represent a reference in the origin of sound capture techniques in filming and the subsequent postproduction process, in which the sound effects begin to be integrated
