Resumo

Analysis of some of the most outstanding works made for the cathedral of Toledo by two important contemporary Spanish silversmiths of El Greco: Francisco Merino and Diego de Valdivieso. In addition to describing the characteristics of the selected objects, it is also to highlight the apparent coincidence that can be observed in the planning of their respective structures with aesthetic ideas on architecture and traces of altarpieces expressed by the cretan artist. By combining pieces of silverware the vitruvian purism with a decorative repertoire that includes both figurative elements as ornamental related European Mannerism. Also includes data relating to the conditions of contract, terms, cost of materials and forms, which allow a comparative pattern with other artistic works carried out at the same time, and in particular with the executed in parallel by El Greco
