Resumo
Aim. To identify individual and contextual factors that influence research utilization by nurses working in hospitals in the Region of Madrid during 2013-2015. Methodology. Cross-sectional multicentre descriptive study using the “Research Utilization Survey” questionnaire. Sample. Hospital nurses working in surgical, medical and intensive care units. Sample size of 850 given a population of 44188 subjects. It has been anticipated a drop-out rate of 30% . Tools. The “Practice environment Scale”, validated in the context of Spanish hospitals; the “Nurses’ attitudes and awareness of research and development within nursing”, validated in the Spanish context; and the “Research utilization survey”, which will be validated through an analysis of test-retest reliability, content validity index, construct validity (through principal components analysis). Socio-demographic and educational variables and organizational features will also be measured. Data will be analysed using descriptive statistics and a conceptual model on the relationship between context and re-search utilization will be tested (95% confidence level). Implications. The findings will allow providing a validated tool to measure research utilization in the Spanish context and a validated theoretical model to establish the features of those centres supporting research utilization.
