Throughout the centuries the stones have been used as natural building material setting a harmonic landscape, as the use of natural stone in small towns reflected as little use of nearby places of human settlement resources. The location of the historic quarries has also component of historical knowledge, socio-economic and industrialists on the technology used for the operation, allowing define the original state of the material. In few populations can follow the historical-temporal evolution of stone extraction depending on the growth of human settlements, so the case of San Ciprián is an exceptional example that allows us to observe, over the centuries, changes distribution of holdings of natural stone in relation to the urban growth of this Lugo town.
