Abstract

This work provides new mapping and sedimentological data to shed light on the controversial extensional-tectonic evolution of the Cameros Basin (N Spain).Thepresent-day geometry of the northern margin of thebasinrepresents the continuationof NW-SE and SW-NE late-variscan lineamentsof the Basque-Cantabrian Basin, along which important syn-extensional salt-tectonics occurred. In the studyarea, the irregular distribution of the Keuper plastic depositsisinterpretedhereas due to syn-extensional mobilization. Thus, the late-variscan basement structure and theKeuper mobilizationsrelated to it,allow explainingthe architecture and distributionof the syn-extensional units of the basin infill.
