Abstract

Social networks have modified how people collect information, communicate, and take part in mobilizations. The psychological mechanisms in which these platforms are based facilitate their addictive nature, and their tendency to generate social polarization. The understanding of this global phenomenon implies the synthesis of approaches from the psychology as well as from communication technologies. The way social networks have been used in the recent past show its potential as a tool in disinformation campaigns. The proposed strategies are based on social awareness, through educational initiatives within the framework of National Security, as well as prevention, based on the resilience extracted from the analysis of lessons learned.
