Abstract

The object of this paper is to improve thereference paleosecular variation curve (PSVC) for the Iberian Peninsula, with an additional data from a time period where the archaeomagnetic information is scarce: the Late Roman – Early Middle Ages period. For this purpose, the magnetic properties and the structure of magnetic remanence for two kilns from the Cerro de los Almadenes site, located in Otero de Herreros (Segovia), have been studied. Alternating field demagnetization has been performed on 16 specimens, correctly isolating the characteristic direction and precisely determining an average direction. The obtained results will be included in the archaeomagnetic data catalogue for Iberia. Previously thermoluminiscence dating (498 AD ± 95 years) have been compared to the resulting archaeomagnetic dating (431 AD – 517 AD), showing the validity of the technique, the regional approximation and the usage of the SCHA.DIF.3k model.
