Zusammenfassung

The Upper Miocene-Pliocene syn-tectonic sedimentary fill of the Teruel Basin in the northern sector is characterized by alluvial fans, mainly fed from the eastern and western margins of the basin, and by the development of palaeosols and shallow lakes in central basinal areas. The study of 21 stratigraphic sections, the correlation and specially the analysis of vertical changes in clast size and lithofacies allow to propose a sequential evolution in which six megasequences have been distinguished. Several lines evidences such us progressive unconformities, development of highly incised channels, abrupt changes of palaeocurrent directions or syn-sedimentary faulting affecting to the contemporary lacustrine facies suggest that extensional tectonics was an important factor controlling this evolution.
