Abstract

The aim of this work is to report the first bauxitic deposits recognized in the Southwestern Iberian Ranges. The outcrops of boehmitic bauxitic clays are related to a single sedimentary episode. They lay between the karstic paleorelief at the top of the Chelva Fm. (Middle Jurassic) and the base of the Huérguina Fm. (Barremian) in the subsident Uña-Las Hoyas trough. The bauxitic material from Fuente la Teja outcrop presents clayey and cryptocrystalline textures with a lateritic provenance. The transition between the bauxitic clays and the continental limestones of La Huérguina Fm. is gradational and corresponds to a layer of bauxitic marls.
