Abstract

This thesis studies human rights as a historical achievement, which raises the social need to create and sustain fair institutions. With this approach, the aim of this study is to show this milestone in the Honduran history and to open the way to a deep dive. The research is grounded on the socio-historical method as an approach to explain the present and it is based on the sociologies of the classical sociologists, Marx, Durkheim and Weber, who give clues to understand human rights in the social and political life, and, ultimately, in the history. This gave way to the implementation of two methodological approaches for the study of the current situation of human rights in Honduras: a socio-historical analysis and field work using open interviews and discussion groups. The study highlights the importance of the fight for the defense of human rights and its strategic role for social change. Key words: Human rights, State, democracy, justice, inequality, violence, social struggle and social change.
