Ankle sprain is one of the most frequent pathologies in the Emergency and Primary Care services. Sprains were approximately 80 % of all the ankle injuries, of which 77% are lateral sprains. The anatomical structures involved include the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) (85.3% of sprains) and the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) (34.5%).The most common mechanism of injury for lateral ankle sprain is a combined movement of forced plantar flexion, ankle inversion, and internal rotation.
