Abstract

Brain metastases (BM) are the most common brain tumors in adults. The primary endpoint of this study is to assess treatment outcome and prognostic factors associated with prolonged survival in patients with BM treated with stereotacticradio surgery (SRS) or hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (HFSRT). As secondary endpoints, the relationship of dose in the hippocampal area with the neurocognitive state and quality of life of long survivors is evaluated. Patients and methods:This study retrospectively reviewed 200 oligometastatic patients with 324 BM treated with one fraction (15–21 Gy) or 5–10 fractions (25–40 Gy) between January 2010 and August 2016. 26.5% of patients received whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) and 25% initial surgery. Demographics, prognostic scales, systemic and local control, patterns of relapse and rescue, toxicity and cause ofdeath were analyzed. A stratified analysis by primary tumor was done. Moreover, 11 long survivors were evaluated with quality of life and neurocognitive tests...
