Abstract
Centrifuge modelling is a technique that allows for the reproduction of the stress-strain conditions of a geotechnical structure (full scale) prototype using a model (centrifuge) at 1/N scale. This is achieved by increasing the gravitational field in the centrifuge by the same geometric factor N relative to the normal earth ́s gravity field (referred to as 1 g).This paper presents some general considerations of the geotechnical modelling in centrifuge, focused on its application to piles. Four representative examples of studies and tests carried out in different centrifuges are presented in detail, explaining the process from sample preparation to results.
