Résumé

In this thesis, presented by means of a compendium of four articles published in scientific journals, the presence of funding acknowledgments in the Spanish scientific publications collected in the Web of Science (WoS) database during the period 2010-2014 is studied. Likewise, the use and validity of acknowledgments of funding in scientific publications as tools for the study and evaluation of research results are analysed. The analysis focuses, fundamentally, on two aspects. On the one hand, the quality of the funding data collected by WoS is analysed, that is, its completeness and precision in the process of extraction of the funding agencies and the grant numbers of the projects from the “Funding Text” field to the subfields "Funding Agency" and "Grant number". On the other hand, the relationship between funding and other characteristics of the research is studied: collaboration type, team size and impact (as prestige of the publishing journals and citations received by the articles). Given the lack of standardization of the data provided by WoS, a computer program is used for the semi-automatic normalization of names of funding agencies, their inclusion in a thesaurus, and allows to obtain several funding indicators...
