Abstract

The entry of neoliberal globalization into Colombia's agricultural sector has caused a series of changes in agriculture and the dynamics of work that benefit global agri-food markets. However, regardless of their consequences that could be considered uniform, these changes have been too heterogeneous, so their understanding requires a historical look that addresses the different global and local aspects. In this sense, this research analyzes the local dynamics of agrarian change and its influence on the mobility processes of agricultural labor in the Department of Nariño (Colombia). The ethnographic fieldwork that supports this research was based on the analysis of data collected between 2016 and 2019 in two Andean municipalities in the south of Nariño and in the Cayambe canton of the Province of Pichincha (Ecuador); interviews and surveys were conducted with different inhabitants of these places, field observation, and the analysis of secondary materials such as national statistics and articles from the media...
