Resumo

Acute appendicitis (AA) is a common disease that usually requires urgent abdominal surgery in children. In the last 20 years, open appendectomy has been largely replaced by conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (CLA).Video-assisted laparoscopic transumbilical appendectomy (TULAA) emerged in the last decade, as acombined laparoscopic and open technique, which includes laparoscopic intraabdominal mobilization and extracorporeal removal of the appendix.The final objective of minimally invasive surgery is to optimize the patient's recovery, reducing postoperative pain, shortening the hospital stay and without increasing the rate of postoperative complications.
