Abstract

Psychiatric illnesses in general and bipolar disorder in particular are conditions that, despite the extensive study carried out on them, are in relatively poor treatment conditions. The drugs used for this are limited and require prescriptions more based on experience than on objective data, leaving the side effects produced by these in the background and accepted as a necessary evil. Within the side effects and as visual health professionals, it is of special interest to deepen those that affect the visual system, generally unknown or poorly valued. For the analysis of the adverse effects of the aforementioned drugs on the visual system, they were chosen to evaluate structures of the anterior segment, whose response to psychiatric treatment has been less studied than other types of responses such as maculopathies or glaucomas.
