Abstract

This thesis revolves around the analysis of job search processes. In addition to an introductory and a final chapter of general conclusions, it consists of three main chapters (chapters II, III and IV) whose objectives are to understand the effectiveness of job search methods and to empirically analyze the determinants of unemployment duration and reserve wages in the Spanish economy in times of crisis. Unemployment is one of the main problems facing the Spanish economy. The reintegration of the unemployed into the labor market is influenced by a multitude of factors, from the effectiveness of training and qualification policies to intermediation and activation policies for the unemployed. The thesis makes a contribution, fundamentally, in the analysis of the effectiveness of job search methods, as well as in the area of the determinants of success in the search process, i.e., those factors that lead to finding the best job available in the shortest time possible. The three contributions which represent the core of the thesis take as a reference for their development a survey carried out in the Community of Madrid of workers who had recently entered into employment and unemployed persons in search of a job. With these data we have been able to carry out an analysis of the different intermediaries and mechanisms of job search during the economic crisis of 2008-2014 and to know the most effective search methods at that time to find a job...
