Résumé

Important geoconservation initiatives have been taken over the past two decades in Castilla-La Mancha region (central Spain) in development of Law 9/1999 of Nature Conservation of Castilla-La Mancha. Amongst the legal instruments set by that law, the Catalogue of Geological and Geomorphological Special Interest Elements was an innovative approach towards geoheritage conservation. The main goal of this catalogue is to develop a tool to effectively manage geoheritage when making land-use planning. This paper describes the methodology used in the development of the catalogue, and analyzes the approach used in the design of the geographic database catalogue, both in relation to the legislative and theoretical framework, and in its more technical aspects of identification and assessment of the elements.
