Abstract

The term acute coronary syndroms refers to differents situations due to a common physiopathological event, the rupture of the atheromatous plaque. The subgroup of patients presenting with ST-segment elevation (ACSSTE) reflects those in which there is a myocardial infarction (MI) ongoing. Despite the decrease on the incidence of STE- myocardial infarction (STEMI), as well as its mortality, it remains a major world health problem. The improvement in diagnosis and treatment of this pathology lead us to this update which aims to offer a review of its physiopathology, clinical presentation and diagnostic tools. It also would like to offer an update on therapeutic strategies, based on last recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology published in 2012 about this issue.
