Abstract

Feeding valué of sweet stalk corn forage (leaves, stalk and leaves + stalk) was studied at two different stages of marurity: dough dent grain and mature grain. Chemical composition (crude protein, ether extract, neutral detergent and acid detergent fibers, cellulose, lignin, soluble sugars and ash) was analyzed and from analytical data, organic matter digestibility was estimated using the Summative Equation of OSBOURN and TERRY and energy valué was obtained by mean of the formula of BREIREM. The percentages of crude protein, ether extract, ash, neutral detergent and acid detergent fibers and lignin were higher and soluble sugar lower for leaves than for stalks. Organic matter digestibility of leaves stalk was 63,9 % at the dough dent stage and 61,3 % at the mature stage. The digestibility of leaves was lower than that of stalks. Energy valué of leaves + stalk was 0,57 and 0,53 Scandinavian feed units at the two stages of marurity and this valué was higher for stalks than for leaves.
