Résumé

Tension-type headache is the most common headache and the most prevalent neurological disorder, so it results in a considerable socioeconomic impact. Peripheral pericranial myofascial factors and components of the central nervous system are involved in its pathophysiology. Pain is usually bilateral, oppressive and has a mild to moderate intensity. The episodic and chronic subtypes are distinguished by headache duration and frequency. The diagnosis is clinical and is based on defined clinical criteria together with a normal physical exam. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the treatment of choice in the acute episodes of headache. Pharmacologic (drug of choice: amitriptyline) and non-pharmacologic therapies are included in the prophylactic treatment of tension-type headache.
