Resumen

This study evaluated the dental arch relationship of 2,016 children aged 3 to 6 years old. Al children were in the primary dentition and were selected from 12 public and 8 private schools in Bauru-SP. Dental spacings were the most commom findings in the upper (84.57%) and lower (81.25%) dental arches, followed by the absence of diastemas in the upper (10.51 % ) and lower (9.33 % ) dental arches. 11% of the children presented crowding in one or both dental arches. Crowding was found in the upper dental arch only (1.68% ), in the lower dental arch only (6.20%) and in both dental arches (3.22%). Such frecuency was similar in children with normal occlusion, in whom dental arches with diastemas were found more frequently, followed by aligned dental arches and arches with crowding, 6.68% of the children with normal occlusion presented crowding, 0.18% of which in the upper dental, 5.94% in the lower dental arch and 0.56% in both dental arches.
