Resumen
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of an energetic supplementation during four days previous to the artificial insemination (IA) in post-partum (11 dpp) on the body condition and the live body weight of primiparous rabbit does. Then, a total of 6 animals were fed with an energetic flushing consisting in the administration of propilenglycol in a 2% mixing in the drinking water. Drinking water of a control group of 7 animals were not treated. Feed was supplied ad libitum in both groups. Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) was used to analyze the body condition because it can be considered a non invasive method and it is easy to apply. Statistically analyzed results shown no significant differences between the weight of the flushing’s group and the control’s rabbit does group at the beginning of the treatment (4200. 8 ± 80.0 g. vs. 4112.0 ± 173.3 g., respectively) nor at the end (4137.8 ± 119.0 g. vs. 4141.7 ± 146.3 g., respectively). Related to the body condition, the flushing’s group presented a better condition than the control’s group at the beginning of the treatment, but it was similar at the end. This study suggests that rabbits does with similar weight can show different body condition; also, the administration of an energetic flushing during four days previous to AI in primiparous lactating does seem to have no influence in live body weight nor in body condition.
