Abstract
The analysis of primary sources is considered a basic historiographical method in history. Studies on music sources in Chile have been mainly focused on issues which happened in or around Santiago. Although there are some scholarly works which allow us to get a sense of how musical activities were performed outside the Chilean capital, little scholarship has been done on similar topics in peripheral areas; even less on the study of primary sources. For this reason, two unpublished plainchant books have been located within the collection of religious books at the Cathedral of Valdivia, as a part of a research in the area. The aim of this paper is to analysis them not only to bring out to light these manuscripts dated before the Chilean Independence, but also to pinpoint those features which allow us to link them to any archive or library, and know the reasons why they are in this recent Museum.
