Abstract
20th century experience of evil is a double-faced phaenomenon. Of course, excess and lack of measurement is one of its more relevant features, but banalization is the other side of that ambivalent concept. This paper defends the cathegory of "common evil» as a concept rooted in ordinary experience and, in a certain sense, as a paradoxical collective endowment of civilisation. While traditional evil belonged to one of the two extremes of a polar opposition, the essence of contemporary evil rests in its internally contradictory and antinomical condition.
