Conceptualización y sensibilización sobre las personas con enfermedad mental

The current study is based on the analysis of the opinion the general public coming from different Spanish regions have about the concepts of Mental Health-Disease and people with mental illness.Through the analysis of the answers given to six questions made in an interview, the study is specifically focused on four aspects susceptible to favor an empathic attitude from the general public in support of diminishing the stigma associated to mental illness. The analyzed population sample amounts to 81 subjects randomly chosen. It must be highlighted the high degree of negative connotations extracted in the interviews. Towards an intervention oriented to the conceptualization and awareness of the general public about mental disease and people with mental illness it will be necessary to consider other aspects to define a proper strategy.
