Abstract
This paper is an account of the field of technology and librarians in the last 25 years, from the point of view of companies and business. It also addresses the users’ and the society’s challenges and demands in view of the upcoming technological changes. This is done via Fesabid’s study of the impact of such changes in the field of libraries after the financial recession from 2010 to 2016. This paper also highlights which competences and skills are needed in the librarians’ profiles as a result of the digital transformation of the sector. A recommendation for strengthening the field is an alliance between companies and libraries in order to foster not only an improved field but also the creation of a stable framework that may indeed be of mutual interest.
