Abstract
The following article shows the spatial dynamic of land use change from 1956 to 2000 in the coast of Granada, using GIS software. Land use maps (1956, 1977 and 2000), have been elaborated to obtain useful transition matrixes to analyze the causes and effects of land use change. In addition to this, some fragmentation indexes have been calculated for patches of each land use at different time periods. Both these, transition matrixes and fragmentation indexes, can support effective criteria for land use management and planning in the area of study.
