Resum

This article analyses how State made use monetary image as political propaganda over the Modern Age. In order to do this, we examine evolution of coinage and historical circumstances in France, England and Castile. We study the meaning and progressive implantation of ruler portrait in coinage of European states and the role played by the heraldic shields.
