Abstract

Formica frontalis is an ant species that has often been confused with F. dusmeti, making it impossible to have a clear idea of their distribution in the Iberian Peninsula. In this article we performed a comprehensive review of existing records in the literature using the material deposited in scientific collections, by consulting the opinion of some authors, and especially we checked “in situ” the presence or absence of the species in most of the localities in which it had previously been cited. With this information, we discuss some of the existing literature citations and once filtering and purifying prior records, we have prepared a distribution map indicating the presence of F. frontalis in a total of 36 locations.
