With the exception of the Anuario de DIRCOM and the Informe de la Profesión Periodística, in Spain there are no studies or statistics that allow us to rigorously analyze this field of profession. According to the Informe de la Profesión Periodística (2009), up 24.2 percent of journalists works in communications departments or press offices. This field is now the second choice of work of journalism in Spain. Most researchers think that this trend will go further in the coming years, because press offices are an important job niche for journalist. This paper describes, with data available, the current profile of dircom in Spain, their job satisfaction, professional satisfaction, average wage, gender, education and training, type of contract, major problems in practice, forms of access to the profession, and other features.
