Abstract
In January of 1869 was the premiere of the direct masculine universal sufrage, that favo-red the birth of electoral campaigns and diversified the options offered to the citizenship. In the district of Madrid the parties presented their top figures. In a civic atmosphere ofenthusiasm, fostered by the press, the monarchist-democratic candidature won in the capital. This candidature comprised the three forces involved in the September Revolution (progressists, unionists and democrats). However, expectations of future were opened to the republican candidature, the second one most voted.
